MUSIC MAKES SHORTS COMPETITION

For the second year running, ThinkSync Films is overseeing one of the UK's most unusual short film competitions.

The concept: to highlight and encourage the use of independent music within film by asking for shorts (max 10 mins) that incorporate as many or as few of 30 selected free tracks from leading UK Indie labels tracks.

Oh, yes, they films must be on a theme: Twist. But this theme can be "twisted" any which way so no need to fret there.

Please see www.thinksyncfilms.com for a comprehensive list of participating record labels & publishers. Tech note: No other music is to be used and they are not looking for a ‘music video’ but rather a short incorporating the music. Tracks can be cut/ edited providing the basic composition isn’t changed dramatically.

The site also has a news blog with useful information and answers to many questions. And you still have time to digest it all and make the film as the deadline for entries has just been extended to July 16th due to a pending post office strike. God love those posties!

Judges include Anton Corbijn, director of Cannes favourite Control, the story of Joy Division, and they will be looking for innovation and the best incorporation of one or more of the available track(s).

Five finalists will be selected for a special screening on Wednesday 1st August aboard the HMS President (opposite the Oxo Tower on the Thames). There will be a variety of prizes that night, including free Raindance film courses, with the overall winner collecting £1000. After the screenings, there will be an exclusive party featuring artists from some of the labels who have kindly offered their tracks.

The whole event is now part of the established Soho Rushes Short Film Festival as well, which will get the shorts seen by a wider audience. So download a few tunes and start shooting.
