HULL SHORTS FEST/NEW DATE, EQUAL PASSIONHull Film has been a major supporter of short films since 2001 and is now expanding its commitment. ********************** The first move is a new name, GLIMMER, as in a glimpse of fimmaking genius. The second is a change of date, shifting forward from its usual autumn slot to run from April 15 to 20, 2008. This puts it into a slightly less busy time of the year when the shorts on display, along with a variety of side bar events and masterclasses, will all get more attention. What has remained the same is Hull Film’s enthusiasm for and promotion of an eclectric variety of shorts, paying as much attention to the needs of the audience as to appreciating filmmakers. The deadline for entries closed a few weeks ago and the Festival is now ready to announce its full programme including *** some of the best short films from across the world, competing for the Best International Short Film Award and £1,000; ***a new £500 prize for the best British Film, with a hot ticket screening of World of Wrestling (main picture); ***and a crucial Masterclass by Yorkshire’s award winning short maker, Simon Ellis. The events and screening all take place at leading Hull venues, including Reel Cinemas and Hull Screen. Filed March 10, 2008 | ![]() |
