BRITS IN BUDAPEST

Actor / director Richard E Grant and Frances de la Tour are off to Budapest for parts in a new $65m fantasy, Nutcracker – The Untold Story, inspired by the lovable Tchaikovsky ballet.

Directed by Russian Andrei (Runawy Train) Konchalovksy, the picture will shoot until the end of September on studio sets recreating 1920s Vienna.

Two other prominent Brits in this international mix are: composer Tim Rice, who will write lyrics to eight new original songs based on the Tchaikovsky scores but ranging from Russian polka to a jazzy Busby Berkeley tribute; and producer Paul Lowin, who worked on UK feature Rollin' With The Nines.

The US cast members feature John Turturro, Nathan Lane, Aaron Michael Drozin and Elle Fanning.

A winter 2008 release is expected.
