ANGUS, THONGS & PERFECT SNOGGING/YOUNG GIRL ANGST

Bend It Like Beckham director Gurinder Chadha returns to the minefield of teenagers coming of age, with the pretty but eccentric Georgia Nicolson, played by Georgia Groome (left), fighting to win her adolescent wars and become an adult.

*******************

Best to establish right away that the Angus in the title is NOT a boy, friend or otherwise, but rather Georgia’s cat and confidante.

Pets aside, she has only two desires: 1. To get a gorgeous sex-god as her boyfriend. 2. To throw the greatest 15th birthday party ever.

No surprises there.

And when handsome Aaron Johnson arrives at her school, Georgia thinks her boyfriend dreams have been answered, until she sees Aaron with her arch rival, Kimberley Nixon, and has to become dangerously proactive to show Robbie that she’s the mature, sophisticated girlfriend he deserves.

Meanwhile, her parents, Alan Davies and Karen Taylor, are having relationship problems of their own, with Dad talking about moving to New Zealand and mum taking too much note of builder Steve Jones.

Despite the lascivious title, this is Beckham lite, which will disappoint some but be a welcome relief to many others feelings overwhelmed by too much sex, drugs, rock and roll.

Starring as Georgia’s mates are Eleanor Tomlinson, Georgia Henshaw, and Manjeeven Grewal .

This coming-of-age story is based on the best-selling, semi-autobiographical books by the Leeds author Louise Rennison,

Filming took place on the coast at Brighton and Eastbourne, in London and at Ealing Studios.

The film opens Friday, July 25, 2008.
